Job Title: Associate Director C (Construction) HKUST Guangzhou CampusJob ID: 4729Job Posting DetailsThe Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is seeking a seasoned professional to provide leadership to all site teams involved in the site management/operation of both technical aspect and collaboration; and to develop and maintain the working relationship with government departments, authorities, local design institutes, contractors, design consultants to ensure smoothness of construction flow and optimum running of entire project progress for the University campus in Guangzhou, i.e. HKUST (GZ). The appointee will be required to station and work in the Mainland, initially in Nansha, with frequent business travelling to Clear Water Bay campus as required.Job Dutiesa. Assist the Director in managing and planning all construction issues in relating to the campus development to ensure projects are accomplished in time, within budget and up to required quality and safety standards; b. Liaise with all government departments and relevant authorities in the Mainland in respect of statutory submissions, routine and final inspections; c. Liaise with and monitor local design institutes, contractors, supervisory team (Jianli) in accomplishing project objectives and meeting timelines; d. Provide technical support and advice on site management to other members of the project team/faculties, as well as to in-house staff of other departments; e. Review with design consultants, and local design institutes on the contractors'technical submissions and site works to ensure compliance with sound architectural principles, the required quality and safety standards; f. Ensure compliance with the HKUST's guidelines and requirements for entire campus project.Requirements a. A bachelor's degree or above in Architecture, Project Management, Building Surveying, Building Services Engineering or related discipline; professional qualification (HKIA, HKIE, CIBSE, APM, CIOB) is desirable.Higher qualification in project management, construction management or business management is preferred; b. A minimum of 15 years' relevant working experience in project/construction management of building and infrastructure development and on site co-ordination of building projects.Experience in managing R&D offices, university/institutional buildings, hospital, laboratory is preferred; c. Experience in managing projects from ground breaking to completion including handover; d. Hand on experience in managing international consultants/local design institute/contractors/ supervisory team (Jianli), contract administration of large scale projects, and claim and EOT assessment; e. Knowledge of local statutory requirements and inspection/approval procedures of relevant Government Department/Authorities in the Mainland; f. Good leadership in leading a team working towards the objectives, self-driven, independent, problem solving with good interpersonal skill; g. Must be able to communicate fluently in English and Putonghua and be able to read and write in simplified Chinese and English; h. Uncompromised integrity.This is a Mainland appointment and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST Mainland entity in accordance with the local labor laws and regulations. Appointment will initially be made on a 3-year contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement.Application Procedure Interested candidates should send their application together with a curriculum vitae to the Selection Panel by email to gzrecruit@ust.hk on or before Tuesday, 16 July 2019. We thank applicants for their interest, but advise that only shortlisted candidates will be notified of the result of the application.
